Melissa Zettler - Family Photographer

Looking back now, I suppose it comes as no surprise that I've come full creative circle to a career in family photography. Even from my earliest years I was always torn between my love of working with children and families and my passion for capturing life from behind my cameras.

As an undergraduate at the University of Missouri my two loves led me to pursue degrees in both Art and Photography and Child Psychology. From there, I went on to complete my Phd in Pediatric Psychology at John Hopkins before ultimately taking a faculty position on campus with the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Perhaps the only thing I loved more than the work, was the people. The demands and adrenaline of the hospital left my camera relegated to weekend hours, but never far from my heart.

Only after departing Kennedy Krieger upon the birth of my first daughter did the circle finally complete itself. Of course children grow up too fast, but life itself is fleeting too, and using my camera to capture all of the special moments it has to offer was a passion I could no longer deny.
